Mardi Gras

Mrs. Nabit celebrated Mardi Gras with the 6D students last week!  She dressed in costume and brought in many items to share.  The students were intially gathered on the rug to listen to a Mardi Gras ABC story. (Take a peek at Mrs. Nabit's costume!)

The students later ate a Fat Tuesday favorite: King's Cake.

This student lucked out and found the baby in her piece!

Lastly the students listened to traditional jazz music and paraded around the room.  It was a wonderful celebration- thank you, Mrs. Nabit!
Students donned masks and hats during the Mardi Gras parade!

Calvert Bear

Calvert Bear has had quite a busy past few weeks during his home visits with friends!
The friend on the left said Calvert Bear drew the apple- what a fantastic artist he is becoming!
The friend in the middle took Calvert Bear to the Maryland Zoo- what fun!
Calvert Bear played dress-up with the friend on the right- he apparently changed into Calvert Bee's clothes, how silly!

I look forward to reading about Calvert Bear's journey each week- it surely sounds like he is having a fun time!

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day has come and gone, but 6D was sure to celebrate in style!  The students decorated Valentine's "love boats" (the boat hulls were kleenex boxes, the sails were their silhouettess) for our annual card exchange.

Aren't they adorable?

Students dressed in festive colors and celebrated with a party in the afternoon.  Our class parent kicked off the party by reading a Valentine's book.

Later, students made heart wreaths decorated with glittery spray paint.

The day concluded with lots of chocolate and lollipops. Fun was had by all!

The 6D Tree

The students visited our class tree last week.  Although we were experiencing unusually mild weather in Baltimore, the tree is still showing signs of winter. The class enjoyed posing in front of the tree this season!

Activism

We have been discussing activism in class. What does it mean to be an activist?  In what ways can you be an activist in your community?

As a class we reviewed the definition of activism- to make a change that is good, or positive. We then brainstormed ways we could be activists in our communities.  The students thought of several great ideas- take a look!
