Portfolio Preparation

The 6D students met with their 5th Grade partners last week and organized their portfolios for the month of September.  This included sorting papers and completing a written report on a paper of their choosing.

Thank you to our 5th Grade friends for their support!  We look forward to adding to our portfolios throughout this year.

Fifth Grade Partnership

For the third year running, 6D has joined forces with Mrs. Liotta's Fifth Grade boys' class for a monthly alliance. We will share time together in both the lower and middle school.  On Wednesday afternoon, the 6D students walked excitedly over to the middle school building where we met and spent time with our new "buddies".  The students even received a special tour!  The trip was a huge hit. We can't wait to see the boys again soon!

Pencil Pals with our 5th Grade Partners

The students spent time with their 5th Grade friends in the middle school this afternoon. They made "pencil pal" crafts using one pencil, pom poms and pipe cleaners.  As special holiday treats, the 5th Graders gave their 6D friends some magic beans (they expand in water) and a lollipop.  Thank you, 5th Graders! 

Picture Books and a Middle School Tour

The 6D students recently visited the middle school and spent time with their 5th grade partners.  The 5th grade boys read a picture book to each 6th Ager

before taking them on a tour of the middle school.  They showed these young students their lockers, their laptops, and even introduced them to a new middle school friend.

5th Grade Partnership

Mrs. Liotta's 5th Grade boys joined 6D on Wednesday afternoon for our first get-together of the year! As September is nearing an end, the 6th Age students are working to organize and select papers to save in their journals. The 5th Graders assisted 6D during this process by looking through the papers together and then completing a "Journal Summary" which documents the papers that were chosen and why.

Afterwards the new friends spent quality time together. Thank you Mrs. Liotta and the 5th Graders- we look forward to seeing you again soon!

"Let me show you around!"

Mrs. Liotta's 5th Grade class visited 6D today. It had certainly been awhile since many of these boys were in a 6th Age classroom (5 years to be exact!). The 6D students took them on a tour of the room, showed them some of their favorite games to play, and even took time to show their 5th grade friends their journals. Every month, the 6th Age students choose special pieces of their work they would like to add to their journal. Today they were asked to choose four out of a possible eight projects. The 5th graders had wonderful feedback and insight on the 6th Age journal contributions. Thank you for spending this time with us!

5th Grade Partnership

Throughout the year, we will meet up with Mrs. Liotta's 5th Grade boys homeroom in the middle school. A few weeks ago, we traveled across the street to see our new friends. 6D was a little nervous and scared on the walk over(especially the girls- I do have to say- I think an entire classroom of boys intimidated them at first), and were as quiet as mice when we traversed through the corridors into Mrs. Liotta's room. Upon our arrival, however, we were warmly greeted by everyone inside. Each 5th grade student was paired with a 6th Ager. They took their new friends on a tour of the middle school and even introduced them to some other middle school students in the hallway (a huge highlight!). Laptops and lockers were opened, and conversations and laughter could be heard pouring from the middle school. It was such a delight to see the students getting to know each other! What a fun afternoon!
