This week the 7th age scientists learned about shadows. We talked about when we see shadows, and how the shape of a shadow changes throughout the course of a day. In this experiment we used flashlights, modeling clay, and a straw. We shined the flashlight on the straw (the modeling clay was used as a support for the straw), and took turns tracing a shadow into our lab books.
You can try this experiment at home! You can use craft sticks or even utensils in place of the straw. How can you make a long shadow? How can you make a short shadow? Does the position of the flashlight affect how the shadow looks?

The Pilots have been working hard making an "AT BOOK". It took lots of hard work and listening. We started by stamping out AT family words on rainbow paper. Then we made sentences using these AT words. For example, our first sentence is: The BAT is red. We were sure to add a period at the end of each sentence! Last, we colored AT pictures and glued them after each sentence. Enjoy listening to a Pilot friend read his book- he does a wonderful job!

Today in Reading we became princes and princesses with the help of a crown! Our new names were on the crown as well (they just happened to be popcorn words). For example, one friend became Prince Walk, and another Princess Up. We introduced ourselves by our new names to our friends, and then practiced writing their names in our journals. It was a fun project! We took home our crowns today for practice at home!
