Another fabulous poetry reading by a 7th Age student!

Friday, April 17, 2009

We had our second poetry reading of the year today in my 7th Age Reading class. Poems were sent home on Monday to practice, and were then read orally today. We are working on speaking in a loud, clear voice to our audience. Boy was I pleasantly surprised when some friends chose to MEMORIZE their poems! I am proud of all of your hard work, 7th Age!

We are working on our fluency in 7th Age Reading! With this in mind each student was given a short poem to take home in the beginning of the week. They practiced reading it to a friend in class, and then at home to a parent. We talked about ways to enhance our oral reading- adding inflection to our voice, looking at our audience when we speak, and making sure our voice is loud for all to hear. Today we held a poetry reading, and read these poems to our friends. We did a terrific job!!

Last week the 7's and I talked about the story Where the Wild Things Are (It's one of my favorite books!). We read the story aloud, then received a script of the play and were each given a character. We practiced reading our lines within the group, and then with a friend. This group was the first to perform! The video cuts off abruptly near the middle (my memory card was full!!)- I apologize!! In any case, they did a terrific job. Enjoy the show!

The 7's Reading students put their new popcorn words into sentences on Monday. Here goes:

I have a FUZZY cat.
I saw a BABY screaming.
I play TOGETHER with my friend.
I SAW and saw and saw, and cut the wood.
I cut myself with a SHARP paper.
I see a HAWK.
I am a bird that's FLUFFY.
I WATCHED TV.
I ONLY have one stuffed animal.
My teacher TAUGHT me how to write Calvert script.

Nice job!

The tooth is still very loose...I think it may fall out today! He has decided not to bite into any apples to prolong the process...we shall see!

Another girl mentioned a loose tooth as well. When do you think it will fall out?

2 people think the tooth will fall out tomorrow (the 16th)
2 people think it will fall out on the 17th
2 votes on the 20th
1 on the 23rd
2 on the 24th
3 on the 25th.

We will keep you posted!
