Today was a busy day and tomorrow evening is Parents' Night:) My day began with a 6am wake up call, and I was at school until 7pm tonight preparing for tomorrow! When I came home from school I grabbed dinner then began work on a powerpoint presentation for tomorrow evening. I am truly looking forward to seeing the 6D Parents and introducing them to a wonderful year!
I do have to admit though- the students of 6D had a busy day as well! We began the day by finishing our family trees. Parents- take a peak at them tomorrow on your way upstairs!
We ended the day by "acting out" some special class rules. These rules will go on a chart which will be posted in a prominent place in our room.
This student said a good rule would be to RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU HAD A QUESTION, and BE A GOOD LISTENER TO YOUR TEACHER.

PUTTING AWAY YOUR TOYS AFTER YOU PLAY WITH THEM is another great rule for 6D.

SHARING IS FUN! (a number one)

KEEP YOUR HANDS, FEET, and BODY TO YOURSELF (always a plus when standing in line!).

USE YOUR WORDS, not your body, TO SOLVE AN ARGUMENT.

Nice job, 6D! See you soon, Parents!

First Week

It has been a terrific beginning of the school year in 6D! We have been busy getting to know one another and our new teachers. So far we've had math, reading, french, science, character, gym, and library class. 6D really likes eating in the cafeteria for lunch! I will keep you posted with pictures in the weeks to come.
In the meantime, I went to an O's game on Tuesday night (it was my first game of the season!) and had a blast! It's too bad the Orioles lost, but at least I showed my support in my bright orange tee!
More to come!

Popsicle Party

It was fabulous to meet all of the new children and parents of 6D this afternoon! I can already tell we are going to have an equally fabulous year! The 6D kids seemed to enjoy their new surroundings and the popsicles were a huge hit. Thank you, Calvert Admissions for planning such a wonderful time together.

Looking forward to seeing my new friends tomorrow-

Love,
Mrs. Armstrong

Newport and a Birthday Feast!

I began this month with a long weekend trip to Newport, Rhode Island. It is a beautiful town on the water! My husband and I stayed in a bed and breakfast called The Hydrangea House Inn. Hydrangeas are my favorite flower- this is actually how we narrowed down our online search! It turned out to be an absolutely quiet and relaxing respite.
During our first full day in Newport we rode our bikes to the Salve Regina University cliffwalk. It was breathtaking!

We also found some snails hanging out on the sidewalk.

In addition, we took a beautiful sail around the Newport Harbor. Did you know the Newport Bridge is on the back of the Rhode Island state penny?

On our last day we toured The Breakers mansion, a summer home built for the Vanderbilt family at the end of the nineteenth century. One room was painted in platinum! My favorite part of the mansion was the view. It is called "the breakers" because of the waves that break at the base of the cliff, right on the property. One of my favorite movies, The Great Gatsby, was filmed at The Breakers mansion.

Yesterday we celebrated my best friend's birthday with a crabfeast in my backyard!

And who could forget the birthday cake?!

In the meantime I have begun preparing for an exciting year! 6D Parents- please be on the lookout for a letter in the mail from yours truly!

Block Island 2009

Hello ALL! I have been enjoying a few wonderful days on Block Island, Rhode Island with my parents, grandmother (we call her Buszia- this is Polish for grandmother), and husband.

The trip began with a nearly impossible drive; even though we left early in the morning on Friday, we still hit loads of traffic. What should have taken 5.5 hours took a little under 9! There is no easy way to get to Block Island either. If you decide to fly, a commercial flight from BWI will take you into Providence; from here you take an hour cab ride to the ferry station at Pt. Judith/ Galilee, then hop on the ferry (the traditional ferry ride takes 55 minutes; the highspeed takes 30), and then- you are HERE! It is totally worth it though. My parents drive so they can bring their car over on the island, and this year Greg and I drove separately as we will be leaving before them.

This island is very relaxing! We are staying at the Spring House Hotel whose motto is "The Only Thing We Overlook Is the Ocean." Block Island is a great place to bike ride so I brought my bike!

Today Greg and I took a bike ride to the Northeast light house- a 6 mile bike round trip!

I hope all is well with you and I will post again soon!
