Peace Table

Under the direction and guidance of our counselor, Mrs. Hannah, 6D now has a "Peace Table" in our classroom. This project is being piloted by one class per grade-level. During our last Character lesson, Mrs. Hannah guided the students over to the table, where she discussed how it would be used. When two friends were in an argument, one friend could request they discuss their feelings at this special place. They would need to bring over a chair each to get comfortable.
A feelings paper, sand timer, and outline of how to utilize this meeting area is clearly defined for the students. Once seated, each child uses the sand timer to voice their feelings, with no interruptions. They can utilize the feelings faces for support.
After each has had a turn for discussion and an agreement on how to go forward has been met, they both shake hands. Also, what happens at the peace table, stays at the peace table- no exceptions! The peace table is a private place.
Some students were so excited by the idea of this table, they just had to try it out the very next day!

I know this will be a wonderful support for 6D this year as we navigate through many discussions on feelings and problem-solving. Thank you, Mrs. Hannah!
