Soccer Stars!

This past weekend I was lucky enough to visit some of my classmates and other Calvert friends playing soccer! It was really nice to catch up with the parents and cheer from the sidelines! Calvert has some incredible soccer players- watch out Mrs. Sewell and Mr. Vorsteg!

Mrs. Armstrong is the STAR OF THE WEEK!

We are starting a new project in 6D, which will highlight a special friend each week! This week was my turn- I was the "star of the week". There are three aspects to this project:
1. When you are star of the week, you are allowed to bring in a photo collage/picture collage of some of your favorite things. I made a photo collage of myself and of my family. One day this past week I shared this collage with 6D.
2. You are allowed to bring in a favorite snack for your friends to eat. I brought in one of my favorite cookies- oreos! Please make sure that when you bring in your snack, you do not include any nuts.
3. Last, but not least, when you are star of the week, your friends will draw a picture of you doing one of your favorite things. These pictures will be combined in a book for the star of the week to take home and cherish. Stay tuned this week for our next star!
Another Friday morning of play included boys coloring and girls building...

Estimation and Math Games

We estimated jenga blocks in math on Friday. These two friends guessed closest to the exact amount- with the number 18. The actual number was 16. Nice job, ladies!

We were able to choose a variety of math games to play with after our estimation. Some friends made patterns with blocks, other friends built with legos, and one friend put together an entire map of the United States (each state was a separate piece) by himself. Boy was I impressed!! Play = Learning in 6th Age Math.

Mr. Martire

Mr. Martire read to us on Friday morning! Thank you, Mr. Martire!

Interview

This past week Mrs. Williams' 9B class and 6D got together for the first time. We decided to meet at Molly's Garden, located near the Middle School. It was such a beautiful afternoon! The 9th Age and 6D will be meeting periodically throughout the year. It was really fun to meet new friends, especially the bigger kids at Calvert! On this visit, we were partnered with a 9th age girl, who interviewed us. This interview helped them learn about us. The 6's were also able to interview the 9's girls. Thank you, Mrs. Williams and 9B for a fabulous first meeting! We look forward to seeing you again in November!

Something Made Of Wood

This week's sharing was "something made of wood". We brainstormed as a class a week before on possible items to bring in. These included a bird's nest, a stick from outside...a friend suggested they could bring in their bed from home! We decided the bed would probably be too large to fit inside of our bookbag. I was a little curious what would come in to school, and I was truly surprised on Monday morning when sharing began...(drum roll please):
A seesaw from a dollhouse is made of wood.

A box decorated with gems in made of wood.

This is a wooden frog. When you take the peg from it's mouth and roll it over it's back, it makes a frog sound!

A golfball; the brown one is made of wood.

Jenga is a game made of wooden rectangular blocks.

This friend brought in 3 wooden animal cars, and a town made of wood!

A surfboard keychain is made of wood

This friend decorated a wooden birdhouse!

This friend built a wooden model jeep!

These toy animals are made of wood.

This is a letter from this friend's name, and (yes, you guessed it)- it's made of wood!

These are teeny tiny wooden people.

And these are ladybugs!

YAY for Sharing!
